“Many thanks for presenting such an energetic course that should be mandatory for all project managers.” (Sandro Quattrocchi  MSc, PMP, MPM)

“I loved the small engaged group on this course, so used to attending large courses with minimal engagement, this felt incredibly personally and open!” (Ben Morris, MAPM)

Wonderful opportunity to host an interactive workshop as part of the APM Volunteers Forum in Reading. We began with a ‘Call to Action’ before supper and the next day engaged volunteers in an exciting interactive session using systems thinking to introduce circularity into their projects.

september 2023, PMI Africa Conference

by Ivan Rincon P.Eng PMP PgMP PMI-RMP CISA

In beautiful Nairobi (Kenya), I was invited to present to the mostly African delegates. I had the chance to speak at a breakout session for 140 people and then had two 45 minutes round tables with 10 delegates each.

Africa is a very special place for project management and more specifically for Responsible Project Management. The practice is quite new, but project managers have a sense of responsibility quite unique in my experience. They really look at the societal and environmental benefits of projects with a different lens. Their questions were very situational and showed genuine interest in the topic.

I was also challenged to explain the difference between the concepts of sustainability in project management and RPM.

My personal assessment is that Africa is a great place to push for adoption of RPM practices and they will be gladly accepted and embraced.

october 2023, Atlanta, PMI Global Summit

by Ivan Rincon P.Eng PMP PgMP PMI-RMP CISA

Taking place in Atlanta, the marquee PMI event attracted over 3,000 delegates from all over the globe. I was scheduled for a 1-hour breakout session.

In this event, you have a typical mixture of people looking for Professional Development Units (PDUs) and people interested in the topic. The session was attended by 120 people.

I received questions about the link between RPM and the best practices presented in the PMBOK. I also had a couple of questions on the concept of sustainability vs RPM. One more attendee wanted to understand the link between RPM and Systems Thinking.

At the end of the session, I was approached by 3 young project managers. We had a interesting chat about the social impact of project management. It leads me to believe that young practitioners are probably more open to the idea of a “new” approach to project outcomes.n this event, you have a typical mixture of people looking for Professional Development Units (PDUs) and people interested in the topic. The session was attended by 120 people.

november 2023, Puerto Rico, PMI Chapter PD Symposium

by Ivan Rincon P.Eng PMP PgMP PMI-RMP CISA

I was invited as a keynote speaker to this event, also a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Chapter. I also made the first presentation in Spanish about the topic. The room had close to 400 delegates from the Island!

It was a very dynamic session with lots of questions at the end, mostly based on the concept of the “new” outcomes. Puerto Rico is particularly sensitive to these topics because they are still recovering from two catastrophic events in the last 7 years that affected the way projects are seen and developed.

september-october 2023, online

Another fantastic online course - RPM for Sustainable Development - this time intended for sustainability practitioners wishing to learn more about project management. More than that though, we met many new people working on great projects - some explicitly aiming to deliver sustainable development, others were community projects, and there were some examples of business projects at an early stage where there was a desire to ‘do better’.

Thank you to everyone who participated; we all increased our understanding of applying tools and techniques for systems thinking and sustainability in practice.
