Meet the Team
Dr Karen Thompson
Co-founder of Responsible Project Management and independent consultant. After a first career in information systems and technology, I moved into academia more than 25 years ago, and received my PhD in Project Management from Bournemouth University.
A love of wild places and wildlife shapes my life. Systems thinking, project management and facilitating learning have been intertwined in my career and are now reflected in fellowships at The Schumacher Institute, the Association for Project Management, and the Higher Education Academy. I am a member of the British Standards Institute Committee for Project Controls, member of the UN PRME working group on Sustainability Mindset, member of the Project Management Institute Curriculum Review Committee, and expert for Developing Proposal and Constitution for a Centre for Project Management at the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. My work at the intersection of project management and sustainable business has received recognition and awards for teaching excellence, research impact, innovation, and social good.
Dr Nigel Williams
PMP, founding member of Responsible Project Management team, PMI UK Board Member and Professor of Responsible Project and Systems Management at the University of Portsmouth. My PhD is in Engineering from the University of Cambridge. My research has examined stakeholder interactions using social network analysis, project capacity of organizations in post conflict countries and the evolution of project capabilities in organizations. Before joining academia, I worked as a Manager and Business Consultant for enterprises in the Caribbean.
Dr Shirley Thompson
Member of the Responsible Project Management team. I run a soft-skills coaching practice and am a PMI (UK) Volunteer. My research focus is a soft skills framework to support leaders, coaches, educators who would like to use soft skills effectively. I am leading the Responsible Conversations initiative.
